The main purpose of the Estonian Association of Sociologists (ESL) is reflected in its name: to provide a meeting place and a forum of discussion for all the sociologists in Estonia and act as a joint body in matters of common interest among Estonian sociologists.
The association is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation established in 1999 and continuing the traditions of Academic Association of Estonian Sociologists that operated between 1990 and 1999.
In addition to sociologists political scientists and anthropologists also participate in our activities as their numbers and just emerging traditions make it reasonable to work in a joint organisation.
The most important body of ESL is the annual general meeting of the association. Between the meetings the board is running the organisation. The activities include:
- Information exchange via homepage (www.sotsioloogia.ee) and mailing list (org.esl@lists.ut.ee)
- Annual general meetings
- Discussions and other events
- International co-operation (ESL is a member of European Sociological Association and International Sociological Association).
